What is this about?

There will be changes to the regulation of mercury importation and exportation in Australia in late 2021.

Read about the Minimata Convention on Mercury and upcoming changes to the rules.

Before these regulatory changes occur, we need to collect information from current and previous mercury importers and exporters.

Who needs to submit this form

  • If you or your business are importing or exporting mercury (as defined under the Minimata Convention on Mercury).
  • If you or your business imported or exported mercury (as defined under the Minimata Convention on Mercury) at any time after 30 June 2020.

 

Definition of mercury under the Minimata Convention on Mercury 
Elemental mercury (Hg(0), CAS No 7439-97-6) and/or mixtures of mercury (including alloys of mercury) with a mercury concentration of at least 95% by weight. 

 

You don’t need to submit information about compounds of mercury such as:
– mercury (l) chloride – also known as calomel
– mercury (ll) oxide
– mercury (ll) sulphate
– mercury (ll) nitrate
– cinnabar 
– mercury sulphide
