Evaluations notice for pentaBDE - 22 October 2021

We have completed an evaluation about the human health and environmental risks associated with the use of Pentabromodiphenyl ether (pentaBDE) on the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (Inventory).

This evaluation is issued by the AICIS Executive Director under section 78 of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019 and is listed below. The draft versions of these evaluation statements were open for public consultation that closed on 20 August 2021.

Public comment received: Yes – hazard and other information

Public consultation outcome: The evaluation statement has been amended to address comments relating to industry advice. A variation to the evaluation statement was not made based on the hazard information. The hazard information provided is consistent with critical health effects considered in the evaluation. 

Evaluation outcomes: Recommendations to remove a chemical from the inventory; recommendation to regulatory body (environment).
