IUCLID (International Uniform Chemical Information Database)

IUCLID is an internationally recognised software application developed by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to collect, store, and exchange data on chemical substances worldwide.  IUCLID achieves this through the use of OECD harmonised templates, which provide standardised formats. These templates help ensure the quality and consistency of chemical data, making it easier for businesses to prepare high-quality submissions to regulatory authorities across different jurisdictions

How AICIS uses IUCLID

We have integrated IUCLID into the AICIS assessment certificate application process.

Introducers (importers or manufacturers of industrial chemicals) must use IUCLID to apply for an assessment certificate. The software allows them to create a comprehensive chemical dossier – a structured compilation of all relevant information about the chemical. This dossier forms an essential part of their certificate application submitted via AICIS Business Services.

Benefits of using IUCLID

Using IUCLID for your AICIS submissions offers several advantages:

  • Comprehensive data management: You can efficiently compile, store, and update detailed technical dossiers for your chemicals. This includes crucial data on the intrinsic properties (e.g., physical-chemical characteristics) and hazard properties (e.g., toxicity) of a substance, which are vital for safety assessments.
  • Data reusability, efficiency and global interoperability: Leverage an internationally recognised system so that you can easily reuse information from previous submissions to other regulatory bodies (both national and international) or business partners. This significantly reduces redundant data entry and saves time.
  • Ensures compliance with Australian requirements: Benefit from using the built-in AICIS validation tool that automatically checks your dossier against specific Australian regulatory requirements before submission. This helps you identify and fix errors early, to ensure your submission meets our standards.
  • Streamlined record-keeping: Allows you to automatically save a complete copy of all submitted information to meet AICIS record-keeping obligations.
