Reporting and record-keeping obligations
Declarations, reports and records you need to submit or keep after you have categorised your introduction.
Before you read this section, you must first categorise each chemical introduction into one of the following categories: listed, exempted, reported, assessed or commercial evaluation. Read our guide to work out your introduction category.
If you’re an industrial chemical importer or manufacturer, you are legally required to register your business at the correct registration level.
Your chemical introduction is authorised until 31 August 2022 if it meets certain exemption criteria that existed under NICNAS.
These are required for all reported introductions. You must submit your pre-introduction report before you start your import or manufacture in Australia.
You must keep records about your chemical introduction. You’ll use these to submit your ‘annual declaration’. The first annual declaration under AICIS is due by 30 November 2021.
For some types of exempted introductions, you must submit a once-off post-introduction declaration. If this applies to your introduction, you must submit your declaration by 30 November each year.
