Welcome to the website of the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS). We started on 1 July 2020. Read about us.

About Us

We help protect the health of Australians and our environment by finding out the risks of industrial chemicals and recommending ways to promote their safer use.

Our costs are recovered from industrial chemical importers and manufacturers in accordance with Australian Government policies.

The Industrial Chemicals Act 2019 is the Australian law that regulates the importation and manufacture of industrial chemicals in Australia. AICIS is the regulatory scheme that administers these laws.

Information in this section aims to provide the public and businesses with a clear understanding of our role as a regulator of the introduction of industrial chemicals in Australia.

We assess the risks associated with manufacturing, importing (introducing) and using industrial chemicals. To assess risk, we consider any potential harm to human health and the environment.

You have the right to access documents we hold under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act). This page explains how to make an FOI request, how we process an FOI request and includes a link to our disclosure log.
