PFAS introduction and use in Australia: draft evaluation statement open for comments until 2 December 2026

""

We have completed a draft evaluation on the industrial use and importation or manufacture (introduction) of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Australia. The draft statement brings together information reported to AICIS by businesses about PFAS they introduced between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2025.

The draft evaluation statement identifies which of the 522 PFAS on the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (Inventory) were introduced into Australia, what they were used for and the volume introduced.

The draft evaluation does not assess the human health and environmental impacts of PFAS. The information gathered will help us prioritise future evaluation work, including assessment of their risks.

We invite everyone to review the draft report and give feedback.

Consultation closes on 2 December 2026.
