Specific information requirement

A specific information requirement (SIR) is a requirement on introducers of industrial chemicals to give information to AICIS. An SIR

 may apply to the introduction of chemicals that:

• are on the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (Inventory)—in this case, the SIR is a term of the Inventory listing
• have current assessment certificates
• have current commercial evaluation or exceptional circumstance authorisations

An SIR ensures AICIS receives information that may indicate new or increased risks for a chemical introduction, compared to risks previously identified in an assessment or evaluation by NICNAS* or AICIS.

*National Industrial Chemicals Notification & Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) is the previous scheme that operated until AICIS started on 1 July 2020.
