Notice of completed evaluations – 26 June 2025

We have published 18 evaluations about the human health and environmental risks associated with the use of certain chemicals on the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (Inventory). The status of these evaluations has been updated in our Rolling Action Plan.

These evaluations are issued by the AICIS Executive Director under section 78 of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019 and are listed below. The draft versions of these evaluation statements were open for public consultation and closed on 29 May 2025.

EVA IDSubject of evaluationPublic comment receivedPublic consultation outcomeEvaluation outcome
EVA001581,1'-Biphenyl, 4,4'-diisocyanato-3,3'-dimethyl-No Recommendation to regulatory body (workers); Information relating to safe introduction and use
EVA001591-Butanone, 2-(dimethylamino)-2-[(4-methylphenyl)methyl]-1-[4-(4-morpholinyl)phenyl]-No Proposal to vary terms of the inventory; Recommendation to regulatory body (workers); Information relating to safe introduction and use
EVA00160Acrylic acid and its salts and acyl derivativesYes - Exposure informationA variation to the evaluation statement was required. The evaluation statement has been amended to include additional Australian use information for the chemical acrylic acid.No new means of managing risk are proposed
EVA00161Alkyl borate estersNo Recommendation to regulatory body (workers); Information relating to safe introduction and use
EVA00165Chemicals that are unlikely to require further regulation to manage risks to human healthNo No new means of managing risk are proposed
EVA00167Di-tert-butylphenolsNo No new means of managing risk are proposed
EVA00168Ethoxylated alcoholsYes - Exposure and hazard informationA variation to the evaluation statement was required. The evaluation statement has been amended to include additional Australian use information and to clarify the influence of ethoxylation on the aquatic hazards of chemicals. The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling for Chemicals (GHS) for the majority of chemicals was appended with a note indicating that hazards may depend on composition. No new means of managing risk are proposed
EVA00169Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and its salts and complexesYes - Use informationA variation to the evaluation statement was required. The evaluation statement has been amended to include Australian use information. No new means of managing risk are proposed
EVA001711,3-Dioxane, 2-(2,4-dimethyl-3-cyclohexen-1-yl)-5-methyl-5-(1-methylpropyl)- (Karanal)Yes - Exposure informationA variation to the evaluation statement was required. The evaluation statement has been amended to include updated information on introduction volume quantities.Recommendation to regulatory body (environment)
EVA00172Medium to long chain alkyl and alkene sulfonatesNo Recommendation to regulatory body (workers); Information relating to safe introduction and use
EVA00173Mercaptobenzothiazole and its sodium and zinc saltNo Recommendation to regulatory body (workers); Information relating to safe introduction and use
EVA00174Phenol, 2,4,6-tris(1,1-dimethylethyl)-No Recommendation to regulatory body (workers); Information relating to safe introduction and use
EVA00175Phenol, 2,2'-[(1-methyl-1,2-ethanediyl)bis(nitrilomethylidyne)]bis-No Recommendation to regulatory body (workers); Information relating to safe introduction and use
EVA00180C4 and C5 alkanoic acidsYes - Hazard informationA variation to the evaluation statement was required. The proposed classification for the chemicals under specific target organ toxicity (STOT) following single exposure (SE) in accordance with the GHS has been removed after reconsideration of acute toxicity data.Recommendation to regulatory body (workers); Information relating to safe introduction and use
EVA001812-Butanone oxime (MEKO)-releasing silanesNoNo public comments were received. Amendments have been made to the statement based on publication of a new European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) proposal for harmonised classification and labelling during the public consultation period. New hazard data for acute toxicity and genotoxicity was added to the statement. Further information about the carcinogenicity classification was also included.Proposal to vary terms of the inventory; Recommendation to regulatory body (public health); Recommendation to regulatory body (workers); Information relating to safe introduction and use
EVA001822-Propenoic acid, 2-cyano-3,3-diphenyl-, 2-ethylhexyl ester (Octocrylene)Yes - Hazard informationA variation to the evaluation statement was required. The evaluation statement has been amended to clarify: that the chemical may cause adverse effects on fertility only if exposed to sufficiently high doses; that the risk to workers relates to exposure during formulation of end use products and that worker exposure to formulated products is unlikely to pose a risk. As the hazard information had already been considered, no change has been made to the GHS classification.Recommendation to regulatory body (workers); Information relating to safe introduction and use
EVA00183Chemicals that are unlikely to require further regulation to manage risks to environmentYes - Exposure informationA variation to the evaluation statement was not required. No new means of managing risk are proposed
EVA00184Methanone, diphenyl- (Benzophenone)Yes - Exposure and hazard informationA variation to the evaluation statement was required. The evaluation statement has been amended to include Australian use information and updated information on introduction volume quantities.Recommendation to regulatory body (public health); Recommendation to regulatory body (workers); Information relating to safe introduction and use
